Åsne Seierstad

Åsne Seierstad (1970–) is a Norwegian journalist and author. She is the author of the bestselling books The Bookseller of Kabul about Afghanistan, 101 Days from the war in Iraq and With Their Backs to the World from Serbia. Graduated in Russian and philosophy at Oslo University, and worked as a foreign correspondent for several Scandinavian newspapers and TV-stations in Russia (1993-96), China (1997), The Balkans (1999-2001), Afghanistan (2001-02), Iraq (2003) and the US (2004). She is known for letting people speak for themselves, to tell their real stories, the stories we don't see on the news - stories that need time.

The Bookseller of Kabul:

  • No 3 in the paperback non-fiction bestseller list of The Sunday Times' chart covering all of 2004.
  • Also, No 18 in the Top 50 fastsellers of 2004 of The Guardian(list including both fiction and non-fiction)
  • As per 13 March 2005: One full year on the The Sunday Times paperback nonfiction charts.

The Bookseller of Kabul was the best sold book in Norway 2002 and total print run world-wide is more than two million copies.
